Thane, Maharashtra: In a significant anti-drug operation, Thane police seized over 4 kg of heroin, valued at more than Rs 13 crore, and arrested three individuals linked to the narcotics trade.
During an early morning crackdown on February 3, a crime branch team apprehended 47-year-old Wajahat Sayeed near a school in the Diva area with heroin worth Rs 6.9 crore. His interrogation led authorities to 67-year-old Mohammad Mahadik, identified as the primary supplier. Mahadik, a former fugitive from the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, had been living under a false identity in Muscat and Oman for nearly 22 years.
Police stated Mahadik has deep connections with Mumbai’s underworld from the 1990s, including ties with gangsters such as Dawood Ibrahim, and has a criminal record involving murder, kidnapping, extortion, and prior use of a fraudulent passport.
In a separate operation on February 1, 50-year-old autorickshaw driver Fardin Gulzar Mulla was intercepted in the Ghodbunder area with heroin valued at over Rs 6.68 crore.
Altogether, the operations resulted in the seizure of more than 4 kg of heroin, with investigations continuing to trace the source, intended buyers, and other members of the trafficking network. Cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
