Thane Police have arrested 40-year-old auto-rickshaw driver Samadhan Arjun Suryavanshi for the brutal murder of a 13-year-old girl whose body was discovered on July 5 near Kasarwadavali.

The victim had been reported missing on July 4 after leaving her home in Vitawa. Police initiated a thorough investigation using technical surveillance and CCTV footage, which revealed the girl’s last known movements, including her interaction with Suryavanshi at Thane railway station.

Tracking the auto-rickshaw’s registration details led police to Suryavanshi’s residence in Lokmanya Nagar, Thane, where he was arrested on July 10 and remanded until July 17 for further investigation.

Investigators found that on the day of her disappearance, the accused took the girl to multiple locations, including Manpada, Bhiwandi, Mankoli, and Thane West. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused strangled the girl with a dupatta before dumping her body in a secluded area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarsingh Jadhav confirmed the ongoing probe and the suspect’s custody status.
