A 50-year-old Thai woman, Pawarana (surname withheld), was apprehended at a clubhouse in Sukhumvit 31, Bangkok, for allegedly stealing luxury items from her uncle, a judge. The stolen items, which include high-end Hermes bags and diamond earrings, are valued at approximately 3.65 million baht.
The theft was reported by the judge, who initially suspected his driver of being responsible. However, communication between the driver and Pawarana revealed her involvement. Feeling guilty, she confessed via a messaging app to taking the items herself.
The stolen goods included a black crocodile skin Hermes bag worth 800,000 baht, a blue Hermes Mini Bolide Croc bag valued at 800,000 baht, a red Chanel Boy bag worth 300,000 baht, a green Chanel bag at 150,000 baht, and a pair of diamond Hermes earrings valued at 1.6 million baht. The theft took place at the judge’s residence in Mueang district, Phuket, towards the end of the previous year.
After an arrest warrant was issued by the Phuket Provincial Court on January 4, police tracked Pawarana to a clubhouse in Bangkok. After conducting a brief surveillance of two to three days, officers identified her in the parking area and presented the arrest warrant, which she acknowledged.
Pawarana, who holds dual Thai and American citizenship and works as a freelance marketing consultant, admitted to the theft. She stated that her desire for luxury handbags and financial difficulties led her to sell her uncle’s belongings for quick cash.
Pawarana was taken into custody and charged. She is now set to be transferred to the Phuket Provincial Court for further legal proceedings.
