Dayton, Ohio (WKEF) — Two people have been indicted for allegedly stealing property through forged documents, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck announced that Terry Anderson and Angela Croley are facing multiple charges, including:
One count of Forgery involving an elderly or disabled victim, for property valued over $37,500
One count of Theft from a Person in a Protected Class
Two counts of Tampering with Government Records
The charges stem from an incident where Anderson and Croley allegedly submitted a fraudulent quit-claim deed for a property in Dayton. Prosecutors say the deed was notarized using a fake Power of Attorney that the pair presented to a notary, claiming legal control of the property.
The house was then listed for sale at $119,000.
An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office revealed that the true owner of the home, a 67-year-old individual, did not know Anderson or Croley and had never granted them power of attorney.
Prosecutor Heck emphasized the seriousness of the crime:
“The theft of real estate is a very real problem. We will prosecute anyone who files forged paperwork to commit this type of despicable crime.”
Anderson and Croley are scheduled for arraignment on July 1. More updates will be provided as the case develops.
