JASPER COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) – Two individuals were arrested Wednesday evening in connection with the theft of catalytic converters in the Roganville area of Jasper County.

Around 5:30 p.m., Sgt. Chris Wade and Deputy Noel responded to a theft-in-progress report. A witness had been following a vehicle that had allegedly just stolen two catalytic converters from a 1993 Ford F-150.

Officers with Kirbyville Police Department located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 96 South near the city limits. Deputies arrived shortly after to investigate.

The suspects were identified as Teresa Johnson, 58, of Woodville, and Phillip Winkle, 55, of Spurger. Both were read their Miranda rights and admitted to the theft on the scene. Deputies recovered the stolen catalytic converters and the tools used to remove them from their vehicle.

Authorities confirmed the converters were taken from a truck parked in the 100 block of Private Road 8040.

Johnson and Winkle were booked into the Jasper County Jail and face charges of state jail felony theft of catalytic converters.
