Police in Thailand have successfully apprehended Teo Min, a 35-year-old Chinese national and the alleged leader of a major cross-border call centre scam syndicate. Min was arrested near the Sakaeo border after evading authorities for several weeks. His wife, Yin, 37, was arrested at Suvarnabhumi International Airport as she attempted to flee the country.
The arrests were part of an extensive investigation by Thailand’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), working with Sakaeo Provincial Police and immigration authorities. Min’s operation, which involved the use of illegal telecommunications equipment to deceive victims into transferring money, had been under investigation for months. The CIB had previously raided 14 locations across nine provinces in Thailand, uncovering essential equipment, including GSM Gateway devices and SIM boxes, which were used in the scam.
The investigation revealed that Jiraporn, another key suspect, was involved in managing the operation’s logistics and financial aspects. After her arrest, Min fled, traveling from Chiang Mai to Nakhon Sawan and then to Bangkok, where he planned to escape the country with his wife’s help. However, law enforcement tracked him down at the Sakaeo border, where he was arrested. Yin, meanwhile, was caught attempting to board a flight out of Thailand.
Both suspects denied any involvement in the scam during questioning. Min claimed he had no knowledge of his wife’s actions and maintained that he only planned to visit the Pratunam Market near the Thai-Cambodian border. The authorities have transferred the couple to the CIB’s Investigation Division for further questioning. Teo Min faces charges related to illegal telecommunications, while Yin is under investigation for assisting in the crime.
