In a chilling act of violence, national-level tennis player Radhika Yadav was allegedly shot dead by her father Deepak Yadav at their home in Sushant Lok Phase 2, Gurugram. The incident occurred following a bitter dispute over Radhika’s decision to run her own tennis academy.

According to police, Deepak Yadav fired five bullets, three of which struck his daughter, killing her. The 21-year-old athlete had transitioned from competitive tennis to coaching after sustaining a shoulder injury, opening an academy to stay connected with the sport.

The motive, police revealed, stemmed from hurt ego and societal pressure. Deepak reportedly told investigators that villagers mocked him for “living off his daughter’s earnings,” and he had repeatedly urged her to close the academy. When Radhika refused, he acted in rage.

The crime came to light when Radhika was rushed to the hospital with bullet injuries but was declared dead on arrival. Deepak’s brother, who lived on the ground floor of the house, filed the police complaint. Deepak was immediately arrested, and during interrogation, he confessed to the murder.

The case has sent shockwaves across the sports community and sparked conversations on patriarchy, financial independence, and violence against women.
