Warsaw, IN – Ted W. Connors, 60, of Warsaw, was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly defrauding victims through a mail scam promising large grants.
Connors faces two counts of theft (property valued between $750 and $50,000), both level 6 felonies, possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.
The investigation began after a report from South Dakota authorities detailed a woman who was promised a $200,000 grant via Facebook. Connors allegedly instructed her to send money orders totaling $2,000 to release the package, which never arrived. Additional funds totaling $19,000 were sent to an individual in North Carolina.
During a later interview, Connors admitted to receiving $2,000 but claimed he no longer had the money. Authorities discovered another package sent to Connors from Iowa containing $1,500 in cash.
When officers visited Connors’ residence, they found a marijuana pipe in plain view and discovered marijuana during a search. Connors claimed he received marijuana from friends traveling out-of-state.
Connors explained that his involvement began years ago, sending money to an individual claiming they needed funds to get home, sometimes using other people’s money.
Initial hearings for both cases are scheduled for Nov. 6 in Kosciusko Superior Court Three.
