Brian Schultz, a 39-year-old kindergarten teacher at Snyder Elementary School in Conroe ISD, was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly attempting to solicit a minor online. The arrest took place just two miles from the school at an address on Rayford Road in Spring, Texas.
Schultz is facing a second-degree felony charge of online solicitation of a minor, with a bond set at $30,000. The Conroe ISD district promptly informed parents of the arrest in a letter sent Wednesday morning, assuring them that the arrest was not related to his work at the school. Investigators have not disclosed whether Schultz was communicating with a real underage victim or an undercover officer.
Schultz had been teaching kindergarten at Snyder Elementary since August 2021 and is married, according to court records. The district confirmed that they are beginning the process of terminating his employment and that Snyder Elementary Principal Crystal Poncho is personally reaching out to the parents of students in Schultz’s class.
The arrest has left many parents, like Nicole Cahill, feeling shocked and concerned. “We have small children that are in his hands every day. It just makes you wonder as a parent, is there more to the story?” Cahill said. “It’s sad because I just spoke to him yesterday. You have a lot of trust and faith in people that you’re giving your child to all day long.”
Schultz’s profile has already been removed from the Snyder Elementary online staff directory, and the district emphasized that the alleged actions do not reflect the professionalism and care of the school’s staff.
The Texas Education Agency, which oversees teacher licenses, has confirmed they have launched an investigation into Schultz’s conduct. He has been a licensed educator in Texas since 2012 and previously served as the preschool director at Abiding Word Lutheran Church in north Houston.
Authorities are urging anyone with potential information about the case to contact law enforcement, as the investigation is ongoing.
