Taylor Schabusiness Charged with Battery in Prison Incident

Fond du Lac, WI – 27-year-old Taylor Schabusiness, already serving a life sentence for the brutal murder and mutilation of Shad Thyrion in February 2022, is now facing additional charges of battery.

Schabusiness has been charged with one count of felony battery by a prisoner as a repeat offender, according to the criminal complaint. If convicted, she could face fines up to $10,000 and/or up to six years in prison, with an additional four years possible due to her status as a repeat offender.

The incident reportedly occurred on July 24, when Schabusiness allegedly attacked a prison sergeant at the Taycheedah Correctional Institution. The officer’s report stated that the victim sought medical treatment following the assault. The event was captured on a body camera.

According to the complaint, Schabusiness had initially requested care for a staple in her arm. When a nurse came to her cell to remove the staple, Schabusiness reportedly lunged at the nurse. The victim assisted the nurse in leaving the room, but Schabusiness allegedly struck the victim in the head with a metal table tray. The officer responded by pepper spraying Schabusiness, although the officer was also exposed to the spray.

Schabusiness later spoke with the officer, claiming that she had lashed out because the staple removal caused her pain, but she could not recall the details of the incident.

Schabusiness is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on February 7, 2025. More details will be provided as the investigation continues.
