BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A Birmingham man has been arrested in connection to a homicide that occurred earlier this year.

Letaris Demonds-Lapri Franklin, 27, died after being shot on April 9 in the 2100 block of 29th Avenue North. Franklin was discovered unconscious with an apparent gunshot wound by a concerned family member who forced entry after not hearing from him since the previous day.

Police had been dispatched to the same apartment complex the day before the shooting following reports of shots fired. Officers spoke with community members who confirmed hearing gunfire from the area.

On Tuesday, September 23, Birmingham Police arrested 22-year-old Tavares Tre Von Nelson in connection with Franklin’s shooting death.

Nelson is currently held in federal custody in Talladega without bond.
