A parent-teacher organization treasurer in Deptford Township is facing serious charges after allegedly stealing over $50,000 from two elementary school PTO accounts.

Tara Webb, 36, was arrested by the Deptford Township Police Department and charged with theft following a three-month investigation. According to authorities, Webb served as the treasurer for the PTOs at both Shady Lane School and Pine Acres School.

In a joint letter to the community, Deptford School Superintendent Kevin Kanauss and Detective Maureen Packer explained that the investigation revealed Webb had misappropriated over $50,000 in funds. Additionally, she failed to pay thousands of dollars in outstanding invoices tied to PTO-related activities.

“We understand the gravity of this situation and the impact it will have on our school communities,” Kanauss stated. “The Deptford Township School District and its employees were not involved in this matter and had no connection to the decisions made by the individual involved. Detective Packer has confirmed that, at this time, this individual is the only person found to be culpable.”

Kanauss reassured families that the district remains committed to transparency and rebuilding trust. He urged anyone with questions to contact Detective Maureen Packer at [email protected].
