Bangor police arrested four individuals on Saturday morning after they allegedly attempted to rob a resident at gunpoint while impersonating law enforcement officers.
The incident unfolded when officers responded to a disorderly complaint on March Street. The initial caller reported excessive noise and a possible fight at the residence where the alleged robbery took place. Upon arrival, officers knocked on the door, but it was immediately shut in their faces.
Moments later, a male resident emerged with his hands raised, claiming that three individuals had entered his home, brandishing handguns and identifying themselves as police officers. The suspects were reportedly wearing masks and had items on them that suggested they were impersonating law enforcement. The victim also suspected that a woman staying at the residence was involved in the incident.
After additional officers arrived, all four suspects complied with commands to exit the residence with their hands raised. They were promptly taken into custody and questioned.
The suspects were later identified as:
Tanner Hartford, 45, of Pembroke: charged with attempted robbery, criminal threatening, possession of a firearm by a felon, violation of conditions of release, and impersonating a public servant.
Shawn Stewart, 23, of Parkman: charged with attempted robbery, criminal threatening, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Alexander Mercado, 42, who is unhoused: charged with aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs, attempted robbery, criminal threatening, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Jeyslin Terrero-Contreras, 21, of Oakland, CA: charged with attempted robbery.
A search of the residence revealed handguns, a pellet gun designed to resemble a handgun, police-style badges, patches, and clothing. The suspects were taken to jail and are facing serious charges.
