Birmingham Woman Arrested After Assaulting Officer During Tom Brown Village Incident
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A 21-year-old Birmingham woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer during a chaotic incident in the Tom Brown Village Housing Community on Sunday, June 8.
According to the Birmingham Police Department’s Special Operations Bureau, officers responded to a report of a physical altercation involving multiple individuals in the 4100 block of 5th Court North.
Police say they attempted to de-escalate the situation by speaking with a woman who appeared visibly agitated. However, the woman reportedly became increasingly confrontational, using profane language and refusing to comply with officer commands.
When officers attempted to place her under arrest, she allegedly assaulted one of the officers and resisted. Police eventually regained control and detained the suspect.
She was identified as Tamia Denise Arnold, 21, of Birmingham. Arnold was initially placed on a 48-hour felony extension pending further investigation.
On June 10, Felony Assault Detectives with the Birmingham Police Department obtained arrest warrants after video evidence provided by a community member confirmed Arnold’s actions during the incident.
Arnold was transported to the Jefferson County Jail and formally charged with:
Second-degree assault
Resisting arrest
Disorderly conduct
Her total bond was set at $14,000.
Police have not reported any injuries to the officers involved and say the investigation remains ongoing.
