Tambaram police arrested three men on Thursday in connection with the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman from Assam, which occurred earlier this week. The accused include autorickshaw driver Mutamizhselvan (56), his friend Dayalan (45) from Royapettah, and the autorickshaw owner, Venkat.
The victim was picked up by Mutamizhselvan at the Kilambakkam bus terminus with the promise of a drop near Madhavaram. Instead, the driver and Dayalan assaulted her. After being dropped near Nerkundram, another autorickshaw driver noticed her distress and alerted police. The woman received medical care and counseling.
Dayalan, who has 13 previous criminal cases, and Mutamizhselvan were caught at a hideout in Chennai following a police inquiry. Both attempted to flee, sustaining injuries in the process, and were treated at Chengalpattu Government Hospital.
