GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. — An 18-year-old Jackson County man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the killing of a Gadsden County resident, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) announced on June 16.

Tamarick D. Jackson, of Sneads, is also charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle in what authorities describe as a robbery attempt that turned deadly.

The investigation began on May 9 when Gretna Police Department (GPD) officers responded to a call reporting a deceased man found in a ditch near a residence. According to a heavily redacted probable cause affidavit, the victim showed visible bloodstains, and evidence at the scene—including bullet casings, an overturned chair, and a blood trail—suggested a violent altercation had occurred outside a carport. The man had been shot twice in the torso.

FDLE was called in to assist with forensic and investigative efforts. Witness interviews led to the discovery that a woman had helped set up the robbery, though she claimed she did not expect it to escalate to murder. She eventually admitted to her role after being confronted by investigators.

A recovered cellphone included text messages suggesting that the robbery—and possibly the killing—was premeditated.

Jackson turned himself in at the Gadsden County Jail on June 12 and is currently being held without bond. The FDLE and GPD led the investigation, with assistance from the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service. The case remains active, and it’s unclear whether additional arrests will follow.
