New Delhi: In a shocking case of deception, a woman using a fake identity posed as a domestic help and stole Rs 4.35 lakh from a household in northwest Delhi, police confirmed on Tuesday.

The accused, Tamanna (20), and her husband Parvej (23), both residents of Karala, Delhi, were arrested from a hotel in Daulatpur. Police recovered Rs 3.44 lakh in cash and a scooty used in the commission of the crime.

The case surfaced on September 18, when complainant Karan Bansal lodged an FIR at Maurya Enclave police station, reporting that his newly hired domestic help, who identified herself as Kanchan, had fled after stealing a large sum of money.

Investigators discovered that Tamanna had used a fake name and identity to gain employment in the household. Along with her husband, she carefully studied the house’s routines before executing the theft. Both accused confessed during interrogation.

Authorities are now verifying whether the couple was involved in other similar offences.
