Syreeta Watkins, Others Charged in Danville Car Theft Spree

Seven suspects linked to multiple vehicle thefts in 2025

DANVILLE, Va. — A series of thefts from vehicles in Danville has led to the arrest of six individuals, with one suspect still at large, according to the Danville Police Department. Investigators say the thefts occurred over the first few months of 2025, affecting multiple neighborhoods across the city.

Among those arrested are Syreeta Watkins (49), Tohn Echols (48), and Shadd Breakley (49). Police believe the trio was working together to commit various thefts, including stealing credit cards and personal belongings from unlocked or unattended vehicles.

Charges for each are as follows:

Syreeta Watkins:

Felony: Grand Larceny

Felony: Theft of Credit Cards (4 counts)
Tohn Echols:

Misdemeanor: Petit Larceny

Misdemeanor: Theft of Credit Cards (8 counts)

Felony: Unauthorized Possession of 2+ Credit Cards

Misdemeanor: Enter or Set in Motion a Vehicle

Felony: Grand Larceny

Felony: Auto Theft
Shadd Breakley (WANTED):

Felony: Theft of Credit Cards

Misdemeanor: Credit Card Fraud

Misdemeanor: Enter or Set in Motion a Vehicle
Unrelated Suspects Also Charged:

Roderick Tabb (33, Danville):

Misdemeanor: Petit Larceny (2 counts)

Misdemeanor: Enter or Set in Motion a Vehicle (3 counts)

Felony: Theft of Credit Cards (6 counts)

Felony: Grand Larceny

Roland Cobbins (64, Winston-Salem, NC):

Felony: Unauthorized Possession of 2+ Credit Cards

Felony: Possession of Burglarious Tools

Lashaunta Saunders (41, Danville):

Felony: Grand Larceny (2 counts)

Misdemeanor: Enter or Set in Motion a Vehicle (4 counts)

Preston Gardner-Phelps (18, Mississippi):

Misdemeanor: Enter or Set in Motion a Vehicle (2 counts)
All individuals except Shadd Breakley have been apprehended. Cobbins was arrested in North Carolina and released on bond.

Danville Police issued a public reminder:

“When exiting a vehicle, even if briefly, take every precaution to secure personal items and belongings out of view. Lock the vehicle and remove the keys.”
