SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A local nurse, Kelly Churney, has been arrested after allegedly stealing credit cards from her patients at Upstate Community Hospital. Churney, 46, a travel nurse from Auburn, is facing multiple charges including grand larceny and identity theft.
The investigation began on December 9 when a report of possible credit card theft was made by a victim’s family at Van Duyn Rehabilitation Center. Unauthorized charges were discovered in four different counties. On December 19, Churney was arrested by Upstate University Police, who found several stolen credit cards in her possession.
Deputies believe there may be more victims and encourage anyone who suspects their financial information was stolen while Churney worked at the hospital, which began in October 2024, to contact the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office at 315-435-3081.
Churney has been charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, and Identity Theft in the First Degree. She is currently being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
