Syeda Monalisa Islam, the wife of former public administration minister Farhad Hossain, was arrested by law enforcement officials following a raid at her residence in Eskaton, Dhaka. The arrest was confirmed by Sheikh Mejbah Uddin, the officer-in-charge of Meherpur Sadar Police Station.
Monalisa faces three charges, including her alleged involvement in an attack on anti-discrimination students and the public during the July-August uprising in Meherpur. The incident occurred amidst protests that erupted against government policies, and Monalisa’s arrest adds to the ongoing legal action against her family.
Her husband, Farhad Hossain, had been arrested earlier in September in connection with the same uprising, as part of a series of cases filed against him and other members of the AL-led government after the government fell on August 5.
Further investigations and legal proceedings are expected as the case unfolds.
