The city police’s crime branch arrested a 21-year-old man, identified as Sushil Thakur, for robbing a woman using intimidation and extortion tactics in Deolali Camp. Thakur, a resident of Sansari near Deolali Camp, was apprehended on Sunday after being identified through CCTV footage.
According to police reports, the incident took place around 2 PM on Friday. Thakur allegedly entered the woman’s third-floor apartment in Kargil Enclave, claiming he needed to check water pressure. Inside the home with just the woman and her young child, he then threatened to harm the child, coercing the woman into removing her clothes. He took compromising photographs and used them to extort valuables, including Rs1,500 in cash and over 80 grams of gold jewellery, worth a total of over Rs4 lakh, before fleeing.
The Deolali Camp police immediately registered a case of robbery and extortion after the woman lodged a complaint. Investigators analyzed CCTV footage from the vicinity and matched it with the complainant’s description, identifying Thakur on a two-wheeler.
The police team successfully traced the accused’s residence and found the same two-wheeler parked outside, leading to his arrest.
Further legal proceedings are underway, and police are also investigating whether Thakur was involved in similar crimes in the region.
