In a major breakthrough, police have arrested Susant Nayak, the prime suspect in the brutal daylight murder of police mitra Sahadev Nayak. The arrest followed the capture of seven other individuals, including Rama Nayak, who is said to be an accomplice of Susant. Rama’s arrest led authorities to trace Susant’s whereabouts in Cuttack.
The shocking murder took place on January 8 when Sahadev, a sanitary supervisor at the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and a volunteer with the police, was intercepted and killed by Susant and his gang on the Rasulgarh flyover. Sahadev had just dropped his daughter off at school when the assailants attacked him.
Police investigations revealed that the murder was the result of a long-standing enmity. Susant, along with another suspect, Lipika Nayak, had plotted to kill Sahadev. On the day of the attack, it was Lipika and Susant who pursued Sahadev. After committing the crime, Susant abandoned his motorcycle at the scene.
Lipika and her husband, Laxmidhar Nayak, had been arrested earlier. Authorities have disclosed that the group was involved in drug trafficking and that they viewed Sahadev as a threat after he helped the police in a previous drug-related operation. They believed he had been informing on their illicit activities.
