by Ananya Mehta

Suryapet police have arrested two accused in connection with the burglary at Sri Sai Santoshi Jewellery Shop on the night of July 21. The police recovered 554 grams of gold, valued at Rs 60 lakh, and Rs 92,500 in cash from the arrested suspects.

District SP K Narasimha detailed the investigation at a press conference on Saturday. Using technical evidence, police apprehended Malik Molla from Baihor village in Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal, on August 11, recovering 554 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 87,500 cash. Another accused, Amar Bhatt from Nepal, was arrested in Khammam with Rs 5,000.

Molla was produced before a local court in Balurghat and brought to Suryapet on transit remand for seven days. On July 27, police had also arrested a woman accomplice and recovered 14 tolas of gold from her.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that a seven-member gang—comprising three from Nepal and others from West Bengal—carried out the heist by drilling through the back wall of the shop after prior reconnaissance.

SP Narasimha added that while three suspects are in custody, four others—Prakash Anil Kumar, Kadak Singh Ahul Walia, Puran Prasad Joshi (all from Nepal), and Jashimuddin from West Bengal—remain absconding. Special police teams continue their search and efforts to recover the remaining stolen property.
