Authorities at Calicut International Airport have ramped up their investigation into a major drug trafficking case involving the smuggling of 1 kilogram of MDMA. The crackdown follows the arrest of four individuals, including 31-year-old Surya N S from Pathanamthitta district.
Surya, who had traveled from Muscat, was intercepted by Karipur Police shortly after clearing customs. A detailed search of her baggage revealed MDMA concealed inside sweet packets.
Outside the airport, three men—Ali Akbar (32), Safeer (30), and Muhammad Rafi (37)—who were waiting to receive her, were also taken into custody. Police confiscated the two vehicles they had arrived in.
Investigators revealed that Surya had flown to Oman on July 16 seeking employment and had been in prior contact with Noufal, a native of Kannur residing in Oman. After a brief four-day stay, she returned to Kozhikode with a bag allegedly given to her by a known associate.
Police suspect Surya acted as a drug courier. The individual who handed her the bag has been identified, and efforts are underway to track down others linked to the smuggling network.
Law enforcement remains focused on dismantling the full extent of the trafficking operation believed to have international ties.
