The Pimpri Chinchwad police have arrested Suresh Dhaka (29), a criminal with a record in Gujarat and Rajasthan, and his accomplice Mahipal Bishnoi (19), for their alleged role in a dacoity at a bungalow in Nigdi Pradhikaran on July 19.
The duo, along with three others, looted Rs6.15 lakh in cash and jewellery from the residence of a 76-year-old industrialist. The robbers, including a woman, entered the house while the victim was alone. The domestic help couple and their two children, present in the outhouse, were also tied up.
Police teams recovered stolen valuables, including gold jewellery, wallets, Aadhaar cards, and a car used in the crime—owned by Dhaka’s brother and registered in Gujarat. Notably, the gang used walkie-talkies instead of mobile phones to avoid tracking.
A major breakthrough came through CCTV analysis by a team led by Senior Inspector Vijay Dhamal. They identified a white hatchback with a Marathi number plate near the scene, traced it over 1,200 km to Jaipur, and confirmed it belonged to the gang.
Assistant Police Inspectors Dattatreya Gulig and Pandurang Devkate arrested Dhaka in Jaipur on July 24. He has 21 cases registered against him, including attempt to murder and robbery.
On July 27, Bishnoi was nabbed from Wadgaon Maval. The police recovered a wristwatch, imitation jewellery, and a duplicate number plate from him.
