In a notable crackdown, the Nandankanan Police Station in Bhubaneswar arrested Surendra Mohanty (50) and Tapaswini Mohanty (44) on charges of cheating, criminal intimidation, and obscene behavior. The couple stands accused of duping a woman of Rs6.3 lakh with false promises related to a land deal.

The case dates back to 2022 when Simadri Das from GGP Colony, Rasulgarh, was approached by the accused, who are distant relatives of hers. They promised to arrange a land purchase at a discounted price but failed to deliver on their promise or refund the money despite repeated requests.

When Simadri confronted the couple, they allegedly abused her, issued threats, and even sent a fake legal notice to intimidate her. Following her complaint to the Nandankanan Police on December 2, 2023 (Case No-190), authorities acted swiftly.

Police raided the couple’s residence in Moon Life City, Kalarahanga, Bhubaneswar, seized documents, and arrested Surendra and Tapaswini Mohanty. The accused admitted their involvement during interrogation. Both are originally from Kathagadia, Nayagarh, and have been sent to court. The investigation continues as police work to uncover more details.
