In a major breakthrough in the Amaravati Mall murder case, Panchkula police arrested Surender (28), a resident of Hisar, for sheltering the shooters involved in the killing of Sonu Naulta (32) and helping destroy evidence.
According to DCP (Crime) Manpreet Singh Sudan, Surender was apprehended on September 7 by a team led by Sub-Inspector Mandeep Singh of the detective staff.
Investigations revealed that in the early hours of June 6, just after the murder of Sonu Naulta outside the Amaravati Mall near Pinjore, Surender received a call from the main accused Piyush and Ankush, who were fleeing to Hisar. Surender arranged a hiding spot for them, helped shift them, and even moved their weapons to a different location.
Further, he allegedly aided Piyush in getting medical treatment for a gunshot wound sustained during the attack. He was also reportedly involved in creating and circulating a video after the murder. Authorities are now scrutinizing Surender’s full criminal background and probing his broader involvement in the conspiracy.
He has been remanded to three-day police custody for detailed interrogation, said ACP (Crime) Arvind Kamboj.
The primary suspects, Piyush and Ankush, are still absconding. Police teams are conducting raids to nab them.
The victim, Sonu Naulta, a local transport businessman, and his cousin Nitin Panwar alias Prince (20), were attacked by gunmen on the night of June 5 after visiting the mall to watch a movie with friends.
