A man identified as Suren Robi Das has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a person in Sootea, Nagaon. The arrest was made by a team from Sootea Police, in association with the Cyber Cell/PTL, based on a tip-off. Police also seized Rs 7,000 in cash from the accused, who is originally from Kumolia.

The fraud came to light when Tapan Biswas, a resident of No. 2 Adabheti, bought an OPPOOF25 Pro 5G mobile phone from Das for Rs 16,000 at his salon located in Karayani Centre in Sootea. However, the phone turned out to be a demo model, not the new one as promised. When the victim was unable to contact the accused, he filed an FIR at Sootea Police Station on Sunday, under Case No. 16/2025.

Following the FIR, a police team launched an investigation to trace Suren Robi Das. After extensive efforts, he was finally arrested from Amoni on Monday. Trilochan Das, the Officer In-charge of Sootea PS, confirmed that further investigation is ongoing.

The timely action of the Sootea police has been appreciated by the local community for effectively tackling the case.
