In a major anti-drug operation, the Surat Crime Branch and Lal Gate Police jointly seized narcotics valued at over Rs68.61 lakh in two separate raids conducted in Pandesara and Rani Talav areas.
During the first operation at LIG Quarters, Pandesara, police arrested Aditya alias Aadi Yogendrasinh and Piyush alias Kahyu alias Shreyans Gulab Patel. Authorities recovered nearly 2 kilograms (1.985 kg) of hybrid marijuana valued at Rs59.55 lakh, along with mobile phones, Rs400 in cash, and a rexine bag. The total seizure from this raid amounted to Rs59.70 lakh.
Investigations revealed that the marijuana was transported from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and intended for distribution in Surat. The supplier, Anand Yadav, is currently declared wanted, with further investigation ongoing.
In a separate raid, the Lal Gate Police, acting on a tip-off, apprehended Rehan Mohammad Yakub Mewawala near Ashaktashram Gate. He was found carrying 99.57 grams of MD drugs worth Rs9.95 lakh. During interrogation, Rehan admitted sourcing the drugs from Kurla, Mumbai, and transporting them to Surat by train for sale to select buyers.
Both police units have filed separate cases, and legal proceedings are underway to bring all accused to justice.
