A 22-year-old biker, identified as Suraj Jaiswal, was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch on Monday for allegedly stabbing a motorist to death during a road rage incident in Vikhroli on Sunday afternoon.
The victim, Zeeshan Shaikh (34), a resident of Vikhroli and a second-hand car dealer, was attacked following a heated argument on the Eastern Express Highway. According to police, Shaikh was traveling to Kurla in his Wagon R car with a friend when a man on an Activa scooter, accompanied by a woman, zipped past their vehicle.
Irritated, Shaikh reportedly shouted at the scooter rider. The altercation escalated when both parties stopped near the Traffic Chowki under the Vikhroli flyover. The scooter rider, later identified as Jaiswal, allegedly took out a knife from his vehicle’s boot and stabbed Shaikh in the chest before fleeing with the woman, believed to be his wife.
Shaikh’s friend immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. Based on his friend’s complaint, a murder FIR was registered at Pant Nagar police station.
Jaiswal, a resident of Vikhroli who supplies paneer (cottage cheese) to restaurants, had fled to his godown in Bhandup after the attack. He was traced by scanning CCTV footage and mobile tower data, and was later handed over to local authorities.
Shaikh is survived by his wife, two children, and his parents. The incident has sparked outrage over increasing violence stemming from road rage in urban areas.
