In a coordinated operation on Tuesday, Tripura security forces arrested five individuals suspected of being part of a human trafficking network that facilitated the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team comprising the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP), Border Security Force (BSF), and Tripura Police conducted simultaneous raids at three different locations in West Tripura district. The operation led to the arrest of the following individuals:
Suman Das (39)
Rahul Das (27)
Biswajit Das (49)
Animesh Sarkar (31)
Joyel Sarkar (26)
All five are residents of West Tripura and were allegedly involved in helping Bangladeshi nationals cross into Indian territory illegally and facilitating their onward travel through Agartala railway station, said Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of GRP Agartala.
According to police, the accused had been evading arrest for several days. Their arrest follows the detention of at least 12 Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala railway station since April 1. The authorities believe this operation has disrupted a key trafficking corridor being used to move migrants out of the northeastern region to other parts of India.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the network and identify any additional accomplices.
