The Sulur police in Coimbatore district have arrested R Gunasekaran (62), L Vijayakumar Sani (22), and R Vikram Kumar (25) for assaulting a woman and robbing her gold chain. The victims’ chain, weighing four sovereigns, was recovered, and authorities seized a country-made gun with 18 live rounds from the accused.
Police reports state that Gunasekaran and Vijayakumar, allegedly under the influence of alcohol on the evening of August 28, went to a grocery shop at SVL Nagar in Sulur. When shopkeeper S Mary Juliana (56) tried to hand them a chips packet, they attacked her with a hammer and stole her gold chain. Neighbors rushed to her aid, and she was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.
A special police team tracked the suspects to Rasipalayam and arrested them on August 29. Investigations revealed that Gunasekaran, who had been working in Andhra Pradesh for over 20 years, befriended Vijayakumar and Vikram, both also from Bihar and employed in Andhra Pradesh. Gunasekaran purchased the country-made pistol with Vikram’s assistance for Rs 20,000, though the weapon was reportedly never used.
Authorities noted that Gunasekaran and Vijayakumar had recently joined a private security firm near Sulur and were residing in a rented room in Rasipalayam. The police continue their investigation into the case.
