SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) — A Huger man now faces additional charges following a confrontation involving a driver last week, Sullivan’s Island Police report.
Sean-Michael Emmrich Johnson, 33, was initially charged on Friday with felony kidnapping, misdemeanor impersonating a law enforcement officer, larceny, and third-degree assault. However, police say Johnson now faces two additional counts of kidnapping related to the incident.
The altercation occurred on Wednesday when a 911 caller, identified as Johnson, reported a driver he claimed didn’t have a driver’s license and was allegedly “illegal.” The caller provided details, including the location of the confrontation at 2500 Ion Avenue. At one point, the dispatcher asked Johnson if he was driving or merely observing the situation, to which he responded that the individual was driving without a license.
A video taken from inside Johnson’s truck, later shared on social media, shows Johnson arguing with the driver, asking if he was from Mexico, and accusing him of being undocumented. The video then shows Johnson taking the keys out of the truck’s ignition and telling the driver that he cannot drive due to the lack of a license.
Sullivan’s Island Police did not charge the driver or any other individuals in the truck.
Johnson turned himself in on Friday night and was released from jail on Saturday after posting a $31,587 bond. However, after the new charges were filed, Johnson was re-arrested on Monday at 2:32 p.m. He was granted a $200,000 surety bond after a hearing, split between the two additional felony kidnapping charges.
As part of the bond conditions, a judge prohibited Johnson from traveling to Sullivan’s Island and imposed standard restrictions, including forbidding him from contacting the victims and traveling within five blocks of their homes, workplaces, or churches.
