Sukhlal Nayak, Lal Munda Held for Poppy Bulb Peddling

Khunti police nab duo linked to opium trade cases

by Ananya Mehta

In a crackdown on illegal opium production, Khunti police on Monday arrested two accused drug peddlers, Sukhlal Nayak and Lal Munda, from their homes under Maranghada police station limits. The arrests are linked to two major narcotics cases involving large-scale poppy bulb trading.

Sukhlal Nayak was wanted in connection with a case from July last year, where 791 kg of poppy bulbs—used in making opium—were seized in the Arki police station area. Lal Munda, meanwhile, was named in a case dating back to May, following the seizure of 104 kg of poppy bulbs.

Both individuals have been taken into custody and will be interrogated further to determine the supply chain and potential involvement of other suspects in Jharkhand’s illegal narcotics network.
