In a shocking case of cyber fraud, Karnataka Police have busted a massive online scam involving fake temple websites used to deceive devotees. The fraudulent websites, created in the name of revered temples like Horanadu Annapoorneshwari Temple and Sringeri Sharada Peetham, collected crores of rupees by promising temple services.
The accused, Sudeep and Anil Kumar, both residents of Telangana, were arrested by a special team headed by the DySP of Chikkamagaluru Rural Police.
— through which they falsely offered prasada delivery, special poojas, and other religious services, charging unsuspecting devotees.
The scam came to light after repeated complaints reached the management of Horanadu Temple. Raghavendra, the deputy administrator, filed a formal complaint, prompting SP Vikram Amathe to form a special investigation team.
The police tracked down and apprehended the culprits, exposing their elaborate con targeting religious devotees.
Authorities have issued a strong advisory urging the public to verify the authenticity of temple websites before making payments. Devotees are advised to only use official temple websites or contact temple authorities directly.
This incident highlights the growing trend of digital deception using religious sentiments and stresses the need for vigilance while making online donations or bookings.
