KENNEDALE, Texas – Ashley Evans, a 38-year-old substitute teacher at Kennedale Junior High School, has been arrested after allegedly showing explicit images to students and discussing inappropriate topics in class.
According to an arrest affidavit, students reported to a school resource officer in April that Evans had shown pornographic material on her cellphone and openly discussed topics like drug use and pornography. Evans also allegedly told students she had posted adult content online.
One student, interviewed by forensic investigators at the Alliance for Children in Arlington, said that Evans had shown her a photo of a male penis several months earlier. Evans later admitted to showing at least one student an explicit image on her phone.
Following the allegations, Kennedale ISD immediately removed Evans from the campus and contacted law enforcement. In a statement, the district said it is cooperating with the ongoing investigation and remains committed to student safety.
“Since that time, additional allegations have been made as part of the ongoing investigation,” the district said. “We remain committed to the safety and well-being of all students and will continue to take appropriate action.”
Evans’ teaching certificate with the Texas Education Agency is still active, though her access to all Kennedale ISD campuses has been revoked.
She was arrested and charged with two counts of displaying harmful material to a minor, and released from the Tarrant County Jail after posting $25,000 bond for each charge.
Local parents, including Elfreda Jones, expressed concern over the delay in notifying families. “When things like this happen, parents need to know ASAP,” Jones told FOX 4. “That’s very unfortunate.”
The case remains under investigation. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact law enforcement.
