A shocking act of violence unfolded in Kallupatti village near Thottiyam, Trichy, when a 60-year-old man named Subramanian was brutally stabbed to death, and three of his family members were assaulted by a gang on Friday night. The incident prompted relatives of the victims to stage a protest on the Trichy-Namakkal highway on Sunday, demanding justice and immediate arrests.
According to police, the attack was carried out by a seven-member gang that was creating a disturbance outside Subramanian’s home. The situation escalated when Subramanian’s minor grandson requested them to leave. Instead, the gang forcibly entered the house armed with knives and other weapons, assaulting Subramanian and his relatives — Kumar, Kumaravel, and Chandru.
Subramanian succumbed to stab wounds to his abdomen. Kumar was admitted to Namakkal Government Hospital, while Chandru received treatment at Trichy Government Hospital. Police have so far arrested two suspects linked to the incident and are continuing the investigation to apprehend the remaining attackers.
The family, demanding accountability and compensation, blocked the highway and requested the district collector to visit the hospitalized victims. The protest briefly disrupted traffic for about 15 minutes. Officials from Musiri, including revenue and police personnel, responded to the protest and assured that their demands would be communicated to higher authorities.
