In a significant anti-corruption move, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested Nancy Nithya Karoline, a sub-registrar at the Singanallur sub-registrar office, for accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000. The bribe was demanded in exchange for releasing original land documents to a complainant, S Karuppusamy, a resident of Siddhapudur.
According to DVAC sources, Karuppusamy had approached Nancy Nithya Karoline to facilitate the release of the land documents. Nancy instructed her junior assistant, Boopathyraja, to carry out a field verification and collect the bribe from Karuppusamy. Acting on a tip-off, Karuppusamy contacted the DVAC, which provided him with chemical-coated currency notes for the transaction.
On Wednesday evening, Boopathyraja was arrested after he accepted the bribe from Karuppusamy and handed it over to Nancy. In addition to the bribe, authorities seized Rs 13 lakh from Nancy’s car, as she failed to provide a legitimate explanation for the source of the funds. Both Nancy Nithya Karoline and Boopathyraja were arrested and are facing charges related to corruption and bribery.
