The Special Task Force (STF) on Sunday arrested three individuals involved in a scam that duped candidates of the Uttar Pradesh assistant professor recruitment exam by offering fake question papers. The trio scammed two candidates out of Rs12 lakh, according to the police.

The recruitment exam, conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Education Selection Commission Prayagraj, took place on April 16 and 17. The accused, arrested near the Polytechnic Overbridge, were identified as Baijnath Pal (48), Vinay Kumar Pal (38), and Mehboob Ali (43). Police recovered Rs12 lakh in cash, a car, three Aadhaar cards, and three mobile phones from the suspects.

Baijnath Pal, an assistant professor at Lal Bahadur Shastri Degree College in Gonda, was found to be at the center of the scam. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Singh, Baijnath Pal admitted to selling question papers prepared by Mehboob Ali.

Pal allegedly sold a Zoology paper to two candidates in Rae Bareli. After reviewing the questions, the candidates burned the paper to destroy the evidence. The accused took a significant sum, totaling Rs12 lakh from the candidates. However, after the exam, the candidates demanded a refund, claiming that the questions on the exam were not aligned with the paper they were given.

The three accused will be booked under sections 112, 308(5), and 318(4) of the BNS.
