On February 23, 2026, New York State Police in Brunswick arrested 50-year-old Steven P. Rocque of Troy on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges related to an alleged bank fraud scheme.

Rocque faces charges including third-degree grand larceny, two counts of first-degree identity theft, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, first-degree falsifying business records, and two counts of unlawful possession of personal identification information.

The investigation began on January 26, 2026, when a financial institution in North Greenbush reported suspicious activity involving a withdrawal from the account of a customer who had been deceased since December 2023.

Authorities allege that on January 22, 2026, Rocque deposited a forged check valued at more than $15,000 into a shared account belonging to him and an associate at a North Greenbush bank. The check was reportedly made payable to someone known to him.

Investigators determined Rocque was employed at KeyBank in Brunswick at the time. He allegedly used his employee access privileges to view the deceased customer’s account and print legitimate counter checks. Police say he forged a check for the exact remaining balance in the account and deposited it through an ATM.

Officials stated Rocque had no known relationship with the deceased customer or their family beyond routine banking interactions.

Rocque was processed at State Police Brunswick and later arraigned in Schaghticoke Town Court, where he was released on his own recognizance.

KeyBank cooperated with authorities during the investigation and has reportedly terminated Rocque’s employment.
