HERNANDO, MS — A 78-year-old Mississippi man, Steven Robertson, will spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of a violent assault involving a woman and his own son.
According to prosecutors, Robertson shot a woman in the leg after she rejected his sexual advances. When his son tried to intervene, Robertson fired shots at him as well. Both survived the attack.
A DeSoto County judge sentenced Robertson to two 15-year terms for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, to be served concurrently—effectively a life sentence given his age.
“This verdict sends a strong message that violent crime will not be tolerated, regardless of the offender’s age,” said District Attorney Barton. The case was investigated by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department and prosecuted by Assistant DA Ben Weathers.
