OTTAWA COUNTY, Ohio — A Genoa man is facing multiple charges after allegedly robbing a local bank and leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office arrested Steven Kozak, 44, on Feb. 27 after deputies responded to a “hold up” alarm at Genoa Bank on West State Route 51 in Allen Township.
Deputies said they spotted Kozak’s vehicle traveling more than 90 miles per hour. Authorities noted that Kozak matched the description provided by a bank employee.
The pursuit continued through Clay Township, Ottawa County, and Genoa before an officer with the Elmore Police Department deployed spike strips to stop the vehicle. Deputies reported finding a large amount of money inside Kozak’s car.
Kozak now faces charges including aggravated robbery, reckless operation, and operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI).
Authorities also noted that Kozak had previously been accused of attempting to rob a Directions Credit Union in July 2020, allegedly while holding a young child.
