Steven Carter Arrested for Attempted Murder, Arson on Chicago North Side

64-year-old charged after setting tent on fire during dispute

CHICAGO — Steven Carter, 64, was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated arson following an incident on the North Side of Chicago.

Police report that Carter allegedly set fire to a tent belonging to a 56-year-old man he knew during an altercation around 12:20 a.m. on North DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The victim sustained burns to his right hand and was hospitalized in good condition at Thorek Hospital.

Officers took Carter into custody without incident at 12:54 a.m. He faces one felony count of attempted first-degree murder and one felony count of aggravated arson involving a known person, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Carter is scheduled for a detention hearing on July 23.
