by Amelia Crawford

A man with a long history of theft and property crimes, Stephen Ernest Blackwater, 46, has been arrested once again in Whistler, British Columbia. The Whistler RCMP confirmed on August 28 that Blackwater was taken into custody following a break-and-enter reported on August 17.

Blackwater now faces five charges, including three counts of break-and-enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of property obtained by crime, and obstruction of a peace officer. This marks at least the fifth time he has been arrested for crimes in the Whistler area.

Previously, in August 2024, Blackwater was charged with break-ins at two local businesses, resulting in a conviction and a sentence of 493 days in jail followed by 18 months of probation. His criminal record in Whistler dates back to 2006 and includes multiple convictions for break-and-enter, theft, breaching court conditions, and failing to appear in court.

Beyond Whistler, Blackwater’s criminal activities span several cities across British Columbia, including Prince Rupert, West Vancouver, Surrey, and Vancouver. Court Services Online lists over three pages of records connected to him.

Currently, Blackwater remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on September 2. His place of origin remains unclear, with reports indicating he has no fixed address.

Police continue their investigation, and further updates are expected.
