MONROE, N.C. – A routine traffic stop turned into a high-stakes investigation after Monroe police discovered a South Carolina man was allegedly involved in a luxury car theft ring worth over $1.25 million.
Stef Willi Huewe, 56, of Fort Mill, SC, was pulled over around 7 a.m. Tuesday on West Franklin Street for speeding. During the stop, officers learned the vehicle Huewe was driving had been reported stolen from Orlando, Florida in 2021.
Huewe was immediately arrested and charged with:
Possessing a stolen motor vehicle
Displaying a fictitious registration plate
Speeding
Felony chop shop activity
Further investigation revealed Huewe is the owner of All PRO Fleet & Auto Services in Stanly County, NC. Monroe Police coordinated with special agents from the North Carolina License and Theft Bureau and the National Insurance Crime Bureau to execute a search warrant at the business.
Inside, investigators recovered seven stolen vehicles, including:
A Lamborghini Urus
A Bentley coupe
A Jeep Wrangler
A BMW SUV
A Dodge Ram dually
An Alfa Romeo
And other high-value vehicles
The total estimated value of the recovered vehicles is over $1.25 million, authorities said.
Huewe now faces additional charges related to the stolen vehicles. Despite the charges, he has bonded out of jail, according to officials.
Monroe Police praised the work of their team, calling it a prime example of how “a routine traffic stop can lead to the resolution of major crimes.”
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Monroe Police Department at (704) 282-4700.
