BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — Stanley Smith of Cleveland was sentenced Monday to 20 years in prison by Judge Berhalter at the Belmont County Courthouse.

The sentence follows Smith’s conviction at a jury trial related to a significant 2022 drug case. He was found guilty of felony one and felony three charges, involving possession and distribution of 50 grams of cocaine and 1,000 methamphetamine pills.

The drugs were seized by the Belmont County Criminal Interdiction Unit in St. Clairsville. Smith will serve 10 years for the cocaine charges and an additional 10 years for the methamphetamine charges.

Assistant Prosecutor Joe Vavra highlighted the danger of the meth pills, stating, “The scary thing about these meth pills is they looked like Flintstone vitamins. They were multicolored, tiny, and shaped with markings like Facebook and Skype logos to attract children. We are glad to have removed these drugs from the streets.”

During the sentencing hearing, Smith had multiple outbursts and was removed from the courtroom for disrespecting the judge. The sentencing was finalized at the jail.
