In a major jewellery theft in Patna, Aniket, a staff member at a local jewellery shop, and his maternal uncle, Jishu Chakraborty, were arrested on Tuesday for their involvement in stealing silver jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. The police recovered around 10kg of silver anklets and other jewellery items from the two suspects.
According to Abdul Haleem, the in-charge of the Pirbahor police station, the theft was discovered when Ranjit Malhotra, the shop manager, filed a complaint late on Monday night after noticing suspicious activity in the shop’s CCTV footage. The footage revealed that a piece of silver jewellery had been stolen.
Upon investigating the matter, the police found Aniket’s actions suspicious and conducted a search. During the search, they recovered the stolen anklet in Aniket’s jacket. He later admitted that he had been stealing from the shop for the past 8 to 10 days. Based on his confession, the police searched his uncle Jishu Chakraborty’s house, where they recovered additional stolen jewellery.
Haleem stated that the full extent of the stolen items is still unclear, and the assessment of the total value is underway.
The case continues to be under investigation, with authorities working to determine the exact amount of jewellery stolen and whether there are any other suspects involved.
