St. Albans Man Arrested in Connection to Christmas Eve Robbery

Travis Merritt faces multiple charges, including robbery and assault, after allegedly robbing Hannaford Supermarket

St. Albans, VT — A St. Albans man has been arrested in connection to the Christmas Eve robbery at the Hannaford Supermarket in Highgate Commons.

Travis Merritt, 44, was taken into custody early on Saturday, Dec. 28, after allegedly being found in possession of a stolen vehicle. The arrest prompted further investigation by the St. Albans Police Department (SAPD), leading to additional charges linked to the Dec. 24 robbery.

According to police, Merritt entered the Hannaford Supermarket around 3:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve and stole an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot, heading west. No weapons were displayed, and no injuries were reported during the incident.

Following his arrest, Merritt was charged with aggravated operation without owner’s consent, two counts of driving with a criminally suspended license, assault, and robbery. He was lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility with a bail set at $10,000.
