Srinagar police seized 14 grams of brown sugar and arrested two individuals during a routine check on Thursday, officials said on Friday.
The suspects were identified as Rayees Ahmad Dar (Rayees Bandaar) and Abish Imtiyaz Bhat, both residents of the Barbarshah area of Srinagar. The narcotic substance was recovered during a ‘Naka’ (checkpost) operation conducted by Police Station Kralkhud.
The vehicle used by the accused, bearing registration number JK05D 2631, was also seized. An FIR (No. 02 of 2025) under Sections 8, 21, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered, and a detailed investigation is underway.
Authorities said the preliminary probe aims to determine the source of the contraband and trace any links in the local narcotics supply chain. Police indicated that further arrests are not being ruled out as the investigation progresses.
