SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — A Springfield police officer sustained head injuries in a two-vehicle crash involving a marked squad car near the intersection of 5th St. and South Grand Ave. at 2:11 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2025.
The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The other driver, Albert Ngandjui Nacteta, 52, of Springfield, was cited for moving violations and driving under the influence.
Nacteta was taken into custody at the Sangamon County Jail. On Jan. 2, 2026, the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office charged him with aggravated driving under the influence.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
